Popkorner ("we", "us", or "our") is an app for discovering and tracking movies and television series. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how you can control it.

Cinema Weather asks iOS for your current location only when it needs a local forecast and you have granted location access while using the app. iOS may provide a precise or approximate location depending on your settings. The location is sent to Apple Weather to retrieve the forecast, cached temporarily in the app's memory, and not saved to Popkorner's database or used to create a location history. You can deny or change location access in iOS Settings; the rest of the app remains available.
Separately, our analytics provider works out an approximate country and city from your internet connection. This does not use your device's location services.
We use the following services to operate the app:
We do not use any advertising or ad-targeting third-party services.
The app may contain links to external websites (such as TMDB movie or series pages and streaming services). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third-party sites and encourage you to review their privacy policies independently.
We use your data solely to provide and improve the Popkorner app:
We do not use your data for advertising or to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects.
We process your current location with your consent when you enable Cinema Weather. You can withdraw that consent at any time in iOS Settings. We process AI feature input to provide the search, question, or reaction feature you request. Our legal basis for moderating custom reaction labels is our legitimate interest in keeping user-generated content safe.
Our legal basis for analytics and crash reporting is our legitimate interest in maintaining and improving the app. You can turn off analytics at any time in Settings, under Privacy.
Turning off usage analytics in Popkorner disables optional usage and diagnostics analytics. It does not disable the subscription records required to validate purchases and provide Premiere access.
Your data is stored in Supabase's cloud infrastructure with the following protections:
Datadog processes analytics and diagnostics data in the United States. OpenAI may process AI feature input outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Where required, these transfers use recognized safeguards. Datadog is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and also relies on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses. OpenAI's Data Processing Addendum uses adequacy decisions or Standard Contractual Clauses for transfers of European Economic Area data. OpenAI Data Processing Addendum.
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we permanently and irreversibly delete the following from the app, immediately:
Popkorner does not persist the text of your ordinary or AI-powered search queries or movie and series questions in its database. Our AI feature usage logs store only your random account identifier, the time of the request, and token usage for rate limiting and abuse prevention. A custom reaction label that you confirm is stored as part of your review. Deleting your account also deletes these usage logs and confirmed custom reactions from Popkorner.
OpenAI states that API data is not used to train its models unless the API customer opts in, and that API inputs and outputs may be retained in abuse-monitoring logs for up to 30 days unless longer retention is required for safety or legal reasons. See OpenAI's API Data Controls. Apple handles location used for weather forecasts under Apple Weather & Privacy.
Analytics and diagnostics data held by Datadog is keyed to your random account identifier — not your email or name — and is retained for a limited period in line with Datadog’s retention policy. Deleting your account removes your data from the app immediately; you can also stop new analytics collection at any time from Settings.
You have the right to:
If you are located in the European Economic Area, you also have the right to request portability of your data and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. In France, the relevant authority is the CNIL (cnil.fr). If you are unsatisfied with how we handle your data or a data request, please contact us first at privacy@popkorner.app so we can try to resolve it directly.
For data requests beyond what the app provides, contact us at privacy@popkorner.app.
Popkorner is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum digital age of consent in your country, if higher). We do not knowingly collect personal information from such children. If we learn we have collected data from a child under the applicable age minimum, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Effective date" above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
